Admission to the B.S. Nursing - 2nd Degree Program sequence is highly competitive; therefore meeting all the prerequisite criteria does not guarantee admissions to the nursing program. Accepted applicants must meet the following minimal criteria:
  1. Completion of undergraduate (baccalaureate) or higher degree prior to start of Nursing Program.
  2. Admission to the University by December 1st for May admission; and August 1st for January admission.
  3. A cumulative grade point average of 2.8, and a 'C' or above in the listed prerequisite courses or credit by examination (CLEP or ACT), all of which must be completed prior to the start of the Second Degree BSN Accelerated Program.
  4. Receipt of official transcript(s) from previously attended college(s) and high school(s).
  5. Submission of a separate application for admission to the Department of Nursing and Allied Health on or before December 1st for May admission; August 1st for January admission.
  6. Students seeking admission to the Second Degree BSN Program Track are required to complete the National League of Nursing (NLN) RN Preadmission Exam. You may register for the exam at www.nlnonlinetesting.org or call 1-800-732-8656. The acceptable score on the preadmission exam must be at or above the 50th percentile overall and at or above the 45th percentile in Math and Verbal.
  7. Enrollment in NUR-153 the semester before anticipated admission.
Accepted applicants should take special note to the following:
  • Students progressing on-time will complete the B.S. Nursing - 2nd Degree (Day) Program in 15 months.

  • Clinical hours may range from 6 hours to 12 hours per day dependent upon clinical.

  • Every effort will be made to have lecture and clinical held during weekdays, however some evening and/or weekend clinical arrangements may be necessary.

  • Didactic classes may be held at the main campus in Norfolk or at the NSU Virginia Beach Higher Education Center.
